The 2006 Far Western District Quartet Competition was held on Friday and Saturday, October 6th and 7th, in San Jose, California. This would be Equinox's first District quartet contest, so we were excited to have a chance to make an initial statement about who we are and where we're heading.

For the first round, we were the last quartet to perform—number 22 out of 22. The contest was running late, so it was almost 11:00 p.m. when we got on stage. We suspected that the audience would be falling asleep at this point, so we planned two high-energy songs to make them wake up and take notice. We felt like we accomplished that goal, and were rewarded with a chance to sing on Saturday night.

Overall, we were pleased with what we accomplished on stage at the 2006 Far Western District Quartet Competition:

  • We placed fourth overall in the contest, amid some really good competition.
  • We were awarded Novice Quartet Champion honors, since this was our first District competition as a quartet.
  • We were the top-scoring quartet from our chapter
  • We made our presence known, and were able to have a performance we could be proud of.
  • We got some good direction regarding where we need to improve in order to get even better results next time.
