get close harmony and Barbershop music with Equinox

About Jim Zeigler

Jim has been singing Barbershop music since 1974 when he joined the Other Guys, a comedy octet from the University of Illinois Glee Club. Even though Jim looks like one of the youngest guys in the quartet, he is the most seasoned singer in the group. He sang tenor in high school and all through college. After college, Jim landed a job with IBM, then joined the Poughkeepsie New Yorkers chorus.

There he sang with the 1980 Four and WJMG quartets. In 1987, Jim sang lead and competed with Entertainment Tonight (ET) in the International contest quarterfinals. Jim then got together with his ET baritone and tenor to form Rave Revue (with Jim singing baritone), slugging it out in the annual District Contests, eventually coming in third, then second and finally first, to become the 1991 Northeast District Quartet Champions. Fame followed them when the quartet image graced the cover of many International contest programs (including 1992 in Miami where Rave Revue competed) and society literature.

A job change within IBM led Jim to Boston in 1995 where he helped form the East Reach quartet (singing lead). They competed in the Northeast District contests until Jim had to temporarily retire from singing due to jaw pain.

In 1999, Jim moved to Chandler, Arizona where he completed treatment for TMJ and joined the Pride of Phoenix chorus (which later became the Spirit of Phoenix chorus) in 2004. In the summer of 2005, Jim was asked to sing with 3 other, very talented chorus members in the back room of a restaurant and Equinox was formed.

Jim has finally made up his mind what part he wants to sing after tiring the other three boring parts. As the quartet's baritone, he gets to sing all the studly baritone notes. Jim likes the challenge and richness of the baritone part, which at times, can make Tim sound like a real bass.

Jim and his supportive wife, Debbie, have 3 wonderful children, ages 6 through 28. When not teaching 6-year-old Ella to sing tags, Jim helps develop web sites for IBM's largest customers. His son Ben, who became a computer geek like Jim, now plays and develops on-line computer games all day long. Jim's daughter Amy is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine living in England.
